TKH Security has updated the software for its VDG Sense Video Management System. The new release 2.6.5 offers one exciting new feature and further improvements of existing functionalities. It can be downloaded by our clients from our website.
New feature: VDG Sense Edge Server
Video data coming from security cameras is normally stored on a central location and distributed from there for live and playback viewing. In case of connection loss between the camera location and the central storage not only live video is lost, but also no video recordings can be made that may be relevant for further investigation. The risk of temporary connection loss increases significantly in case of multi-site installations, where the use of third party (VPN) and more complex networks are unavoidable. Edge recording solves this risk because the video data is now simultaneously stored on two different locations: the camera location and the centralized location. After a network connection loss is solved the VDG Sense Edge Server functionality enables the synchronization of the data stored on the ‘edge server’ to the centralized storage location, often referred to as ‘Cloud Server’. The assigned operator is informed that data in the cloud storage is missing and the system is ready for repair.
The example above shows a basic Edge and Cloud Server configuration. On the left the on-site Edge Server with local cameras. The server has a video storage retention time of seven days and a total storage drive of 5TB. On the right the Cloud Server connected through an internet line to the Edge Server location. This server has a 30 day retention time and a storage drive of 40TB. In this situation, it’s possible to synchronize video from the Edge Server to the Cloud Server up to seven days after a connection loss has taken place.
Improvement: VDG Sense RTSP Server supports H.265 codec
The Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) is an open standard for transferring audio and video data over an IP network. The VDG Sense RTSP Sever plug-in facilitates the transfer live and playback ‘on demand’ video streams for up to 32 cameras simultaneously to any third-party application. Using the VDG Sense API stream parameters can be configured to match the required resolution and compression of the receiver. As from now the RTSP Sever also supports the H.265 codec, ensuring the best commonly used compression technology in the market.
