The possibility to combine access control with other options such as intrusion and fire detection, and the monitoring of various environmental factors, is ideal for an efficient management of unmanned locations.
A safe coastline
To be able to effectively guide shipping traffic in the Scheldt area and to monitor the coastline, the Netherlands and Belgium have jointly built a cross-border radar chain: the Schelde Radar Keten. The Schelde Radar Keten comprises 29 locations of traffic control centres and radar towers, which are largely unmanned. The chain is operational 24 hours a day and since being put into service, the number of accidents in the area has declined. The Schelde Radar Keten is not only used for radar observation, but also for telecommunications between ship and shore, the processing of data and information, and for identification. This will allow vessels to be identified automatically and there are ‘live’ reports on positions. It is also possible to provide remote assistance to ships in the event of calamities and for a better control of traffic flows.
Efficient management
To avoid downtime, radar towers are monitored permanently and maintained regularly. For an efficient management, the Schelde Radar Keten has already made use of the iProtect Security Management System for quite a while. In expanding the system, it was envisaged that every tower would be provided with modern Access Control with a pass and card reader.
Management of unmanned locations
In view of the application in this field, TKH Security recommended using the Apollo for this situation. The possibility to combine access control with other options such as intrusion and fire detection, and the monitoring of various environmental factors, is ideal for an efficient management of unmanned locations. This is how the Schelde Radar Ketenremains flexible in order to further expand its security system. In addition to access control and management, the main location on land is also provided with parking management. This prevents recreational users from parking their vehicles in the parking lot of the Schelde Radar Keten.
Provisioning
For the Schelde Radar Keten project, TKH Security works together with business partner Croonwolter&dros. One of the challenges was setting up the Apollos at various manned and unmanned locations. In consultation with the customer and the installer, the choice was made to do so all at once. All the Apollos were first installed on location, temporarily without an IP address. As far as possible the implementation itself was prepared in iProtect, after which Croon could finally com- plete the remote locations one by one at a later stage.
Further expansion
The Schelde Radar Keten aims to expand the system even further with integrations for intercom, an intrusion detection system and Video Management, amongst other things.
iVisit
Our additional module iVisit also offers a good option to register and verify the presence of visitors and contractors. For places where not only personal particulars, but also specifically required security documents must be verified in accordance with applicable security regulations.
