Smart, Safe, Seamless: Philadelphia Airport Elevates Traveler Experience with Smart Parking Solution

Parking Guidance Solutions 06.03.2025

As one of the nation’s busiest airports, Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is advancing its focus on passenger safety with an innovative infrastructure upgrade. With over 30 million travelers served in 2024 and an annual $18.7 billion contribution to the regional economy, PHL is a critical transportation hub—and with that prominence comes a responsibility to keep people safe.

Continuing to prioritize infrastructure and enhance the traveler experience, PHL has selected TKH Security’s Park Assist Solution, an Automated Parking Guidance System (APGS), to be installed in its new 8-floor, 4,688-space garage. This deployment, part of the airport’s Park PHL initiative, is designed not only to improve operational efficiency but to deliver next-level visibility, control, and security across the facility.

“Philadelphia International Airport is a major gateway to the world and an economic engine for the region. We’re honored to support their mission with a parking solution that’s as forward-thinking as the airport itself,” said Coley Nash, Regional Sales Executive, Northeast.

Smart Sensors for Safer Parking

At the core of the APGS is the M5 smart-sensor, a camera-based smart sensor that monitors each parking bay using dual CMOS digital cameras and HD streaming video. This gives airport personnel eyes inside the garage at all times, empowering them with real-time surveillance, data-driven insights, and immediate situational awareness.

In addition to heightening safety and security, the M5 enhances the traveler’s experience. Customizable RGB LED indicator lights guide drivers quickly to available spaces, reducing time to park by up to 63%, minimizing congestion, and lowering the risk of traffic incidents within the garage. The light can be programed by space, zone, or level; most commonly green indicates available, red is occupied, blue is ADA, etc. The system also maintains a 99%+ accuracy rate, ensuring dependable guidance and efficient space usage.

“Airports face unique demands when it comes to safety and efficiency, especially in high-traffic areas like parking facilities,” added Nash. “By selecting the Park Assist Solution, the best parking guidance system available, PHL is gaining powerful tools to meet those challenges head-on. The inclusion of Park Surveillance brings an extra layer of visibility and control through real-time video monitoring in and between spaces, and the ability to record that footage and store or share it for up to 90 days. Combined with the rest of the Park Assist Solution, it equips the airport with the insights and tools needed to manage parking proactively and ensure a safe, streamlined experience for travelers and staff alike. We’re proud to be part of this transformative project, supporting the airport’s mission to deliver a smarter, safer, and more connected travel experience.”

A Safer Future for Airport Parking

Once the new smart parking system is installed, Philadelphia International Airport is positioned to lead the way in secure, data-driven infrastructure.
