Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport Selects Park Assist for a Smarter Parking Experience

Finding a parking space shouldn’t be a stressful part of catching a flight. For travelers arriving at a busy airport, knowing where to find an open space can make a big difference in how smoothly their journey begins.

That’s one reason Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) is investing in a smarter approach to parking. TKH Security is honored to have been selected to install our Park Assist Solution in its seven-floor parking deck, bringing camera-based parking guidance to the facility’s 3,756 spaces.

The project is part of BHM’s broader effort to modernize its facilities and create a better experience for travelers as the airport continues to grow.

“Parking is a traveler’s first impression of an airport, and it can set the tone for the entire trip,” says Jeff Sparrow, Director of Sales for TKH Security. “We’re excited to help Birmingham-Shuttlesworth make that experience easier by giving drivers better visibility into where parking is available.”

Helping Travelers Find Their Way

With thousands of spaces spread across multiple floors, finding an open spot can take time, particularly during busy travel periods. Drivers circling to find parking also add unnecessary traffic to an already busy facility.

Park Assist is designed to take some of that guesswork out of parking. Using camera-based technology, the system monitors individual parking spaces and guides drivers toward available spots, helping them spend less time searching and more time getting to their destination.

At the heart of the installation is the M5 Smart Sensor, an advanced, HD camera-based solution featuring dual CMOS digital cameras. Each sensor can monitor up to six parking spaces simultaneously, space by space, with occupancy detection accuracy exceeding 99%. Color-coded LED indicators help drivers quickly identify available spaces as they navigate the parking deck. By guiding drivers directly to open spots, Park Assist can reduce parking time by up to 63%, helping minimize unnecessary circulation and create a smoother arrival experience.

The installation will cover 3,756 spaces across seven floors, including both covered and open-air spaces. The system will be powered by the INX-Core software suite, bringing together parking guidance and additional tools to support a more connected parking experience.

Additionally, this installation includes:

Together, these tools can help make parking easier for travelers while giving airport staff greater visibility into how their parking facilities are being used.

“Airport parking has to work for two groups at once: the travelers trying to get where they need to go and the teams responsible for managing the facility,” Sparrow explains. “The right technology can help address both, making it easier to navigate the parking deck while giving operators better information to make decisions about their parking resources.”

Parking That Keeps Pace with a Growing Airport

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport has been connecting people and places for more than 95 years. As it continues to invest in its facilities and plan for the future, parking is an important part of the conversation.

A well-designed parking guidance system can help drivers spend less time searching for a space and more time getting to their destination. It can also help operators make better use of existing parking capacity, an important consideration as demand changes throughout the day and across travel seasons.

For BHM, investing in Park Assist represents another step toward a more convenient, connected parking experience. We’re proud to support BHM as it continues to improve the journey for the travelers who pass through its parking structure.
